Privacy Policy
How Lightning Lock & Key collects, uses, shares and protects personal information — SMS consent, chat, and California privacy rights (access, deletion, correction).
Overview
Effective date: July 2, 2026. Lightning Lock & Key Inc. (“we,” “us,” “our”) is an owner-operated mobile locksmith based in Truckee, California. This policy explains what personal information we collect through lightninglockandkey.com and in providing locksmith services, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices and rights you have — including rights available to California residents. Using this site or requesting service means this policy applies to you.
Personal information we collect
- Identifiers & contact details — name, phone number, email address, and the location you give us when requesting service.
- Service & commercial information — what you tell us about the job (lock, vehicle or safe details, urgency, message contents), estimates, and job and invoice records.
- SMS consent — whether you checked the box allowing us to text you about your request.
- Chat messages — if you use Bolt, our website chat assistant, your chat messages are processed to answer you, and lead details or transcripts may be emailed to the shop so a human can follow up. Don’t put sensitive information (codes, full addresses with alarm details) in chat.
- Internet & device activity — pages viewed, approximate location from IP, browser and device type, via cookies and similar technologies (see Cookies & analytics).
- Security signals — our forms use Cloudflare Turnstile, which analyzes limited device and interaction signals to tell humans from bots (no puzzles in most cases; not cross-site advertising tracking).
- Technical logs — IP address, request time and similar server logs kept by hosting and CDN providers for security.
Why locksmiths verify identity
For lockouts, rekeys and key origination we may collect and verify proof of authority — photo ID and evidence you are entitled to access the property or vehicle (e.g., matching address, registration, or property-manager authorization). We collect this to protect property owners; it is used only for that job’s records.
How we use personal information
- To respond, dispatch, provide estimates, perform locksmith work and keep job records.
- To communicate about your job by phone, email — or text, if you gave SMS consent.
- To operate, secure and improve the website (analytics, spam and abuse prevention).
- To comply with legal, tax, licensing and insurance obligations (including California locksmith-licensing requirements).
- We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for automated decisions with legal effects.
Text messaging (SMS)
If you check the SMS consent box, we may text you about your service request from our business numbers. Message and data rates may apply; frequency varies by job. Reply STOP to opt out at any time and HELP for help. Consent is not a condition of purchase, and we do not use your number for marketing lists or share it for others’ marketing.
Cookies, analytics & tracking
We use Google Tag Manager / Google Analytics to understand how the site is used. Analytics cookies load only as configured through our cookie banner (Accept All / Decline); you can also block or delete cookies in your browser.
Do Not Track & Global Privacy Control: where a recognized opt-out preference signal applies to non-essential cookies, declining in our banner accomplishes the same result; you may use both. Our collection is limited to the analytics and security purposes described in this policy.
How we share information
We share personal information only with service providers processing it on our instructions, as needed to run the business:
- Google (Tag Manager / Analytics) — site usage analytics.
- Cloudflare — content delivery, security, Turnstile bot protection.
- Anthropic — processes Bolt chat messages so the assistant can respond (per our instructions).
- Email delivery provider (Zoho) — sends confirmations and lead notifications.
- Website management (YelloPost) — operates this website for us and receives copies of lead notifications so requests are never missed.
- Hosting providers — store the website and logs.
We may also disclose information when required by law (including to law enforcement investigating a break-in you reported), to protect rights or safety, or in a business transfer. We do not sell personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising, and have not in the preceding 12 months.
Your California privacy rights
California residents may exercise these rights, free and without discrimination:
- Right to know / access — the categories and specific pieces of personal information we hold, and how they’re used and shared.
- Right to delete — deletion of personal information we collected from you, subject to legal exceptions (e.g., job records kept for tax, warranty, licensing or security-accountability purposes).
- Right to correct — fix inaccurate personal information.
- Right to opt out of sale/sharing — we don’t sell or share for behavioral advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of; if that changed we’d post a clear opt-out first.
- Non-discrimination — exercising rights never affects service or price.
To exercise any right, email [email protected] or call (530) 308-6643. We verify requests against the contact details on your service records and respond within 45 days (extendable once by 45 days with notice). Authorized agents are accepted; we will still verify with you directly.
Data retention
Job and invoice records are kept as long as needed for business, tax, warranty, insurance and locksmith-accountability purposes (generally up to 7 years), then deleted or de-identified. Chat transcripts and lead emails are retained like other job correspondence. Analytics follow Google’s standard retention settings.
Security
Reasonable safeguards appropriate to an owner-operated business: TLS on the website, bot protection on forms, restricted access to job records, reputable hosting and email providers. No method is 100% secure; if a breach of unencrypted personal information ever required notice under California law, we would notify you as required.
Children
The site is for adults arranging locksmith services and is not directed to children under 16. If you believe a child provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.
Third-party sites
Links to Google, Yelp, Facebook and LinkedIn leave this website and are governed by those platforms’ policies.
