Do smart locks actually work in Tahoe winters?
Yes — the right ones. Quality electronic deadbolts are rated well below zero; the usual winter failures are alkaline batteries (use lithium) and misaligned strikes making the motor grind. We install for the climate.
What happens if the battery dies?
Good models warn you for weeks first, and we always install and key a mechanical override so a dead battery is an inconvenience, not a lockout.
Can codes work without internet?
Yes — we favor locks that store codes in the lock itself, so guests and cleaners get in even when the cabin WiFi is down.
