Lock Cylinder
From the Lightning Lock & Key glossary.
Definition
The core of a lock — the part the key enters, containing the pins that match your key's cuts.
Why it matters
Cylinders can be rekeyed, rebuilt or upgraded independently of the rest of the hardware, which is why 'new keys' rarely requires 'new locks.'
