Deadbolt
From the Lightning Lock & Key glossary.
Definition
A lock whose solid bolt throws directly into the door frame and cannot be pushed back without turning the key or thumbturn — unlike a spring latch.
Why it matters
It's the component that actually resists forced entry. A quality deadbolt with a full 1-inch throw into a reinforced strike is the single best security upgrade most homes can make.
