Strike Plate
From the Lightning Lock & Key glossary.
Definition
The metal plate on the door frame that the latch or bolt seats into.
Why it matters
Most break-ins defeat the strike, not the lock — short screws into trim give way to one kick. A reinforced strike with 3-inch screws into the stud transforms a door's real security.
