Deadlatch
From the Lightning Lock & Key glossary.
Definition
The small plunger beside a spring latch that, when properly seated, prevents the latch from being slipped with a card.
Why it matters
When a door is misaligned the deadlatch falls into the strike hole and stops working — leaving the door card-slippable. An alignment fix, and a common one in mountain homes.
