Definition
A lock body installed into a pocket (mortise) cut into the door edge — common in older and commercial doors.
Why it matters
Durable and serviceable for a century, but parts and keying differ from bored locks. Historic Truckee buildings carry plenty; we service rather than replace where they've earned it.
