Turnover day decides whether the next stay starts smooth. Add these lock checks to the cleaning list — they take minutes.
The checklist
- Front-door code: confirm last stay's code expired; verify the new one before departure.
- Battery indicator: glance at the smart-lock status; swap lithium cells at the first warning, not the third.
- Deadbolt throw: one full throw with the door open — grinding means alignment drift; call before it strands a guest.
- Sliders and deck doors: latched, secondary locks seated, tracks clear.
- Owner's closet: locked, code intact, nothing migrated.
- Garage and gear rooms: codes work, doors actually latch in the cold.
Twice a season
Audit the lock's code list and delete anything unnamed. If a physical key floated during the stay, rekey — cheap against the alternative.
